FAQ

Do we buy trees?

Yes! Milwaukie Hardwoods, LLC purchases logs from Oregon, Washington and California. We are always looking for Black or English Walnut logs and will also pay for Oregon White Oak if it is of a usable size.  Logs must be a minimum of 20″ in diameter and 8′ long, free of steel inclusions. We have also traded a tree for a milled slab &/or boards.  Contact us for more information – 503-309-0309

Shipping

Large items will ship LTL through our freight broker. Small items typically ship UPS unless otherwise requested. Please allow 2-3 days to fulfill online orders. We ship all over the world, please call for a quote if you are outside of the U.S.

Return Policy

We want you to love what you buy. If you don’t love it, we’re happy to exchange the item or issue you a refund for item. Exclusion: custom work cannot be returned. We do not accept returns on items that have been cut or altered. We do not refund freight, or cost of return freight.

Can I come by to see what inventory you have?

We’re happy to give a tour but please call ahead to make sure we are available. Our hours are sporadic as we might be out picking up a log or not in the yard. We suggest you do some homework before coming and know what you are looking for in species, sizes, lengths and thickness.

What species do you carry?

We always stock Oregon Black Walnut, Big Leaf Maple, Oregon White Oak, Madrone and Tan/Red Oak. We also have limited runs of Redwood, Elm, English Walnut, Ash, Alder, Oregon Cherry and other NW Hardwood species. Call us if you are looking for a specific species.

Is your material kiln dried?

We sell both kiln dried and air dried dimensional lumbar and slabs. Different uses will dictate whether air drying is sufficient ie. boatbuilding, turning or gunstock or kiln dried wood is needed ie. fine furniture joinery.

Is your lumber surfaced?

When requested we can surface one or both sides of lumber or slabs.

Do you offer professional discounts?

We offer any member of the NW Woodturners, Cascade Woodturners or Oregon Guild of Woodworkers a 10% discount on any purchase. We also offer discounts to professional or hobbyist woodworkers who buy in bulk ie. more then 100 board feet.

What is a board foot?

This is a standard way of measuring the size of a board or slab. One board foot (BF) is 1″ thick x 12″ wide x 12″ long. For example a 12′ board, 1″ thick x 12″ wide is 12 BF. The easiest way to calculate board footage is to measure and multiply in inches the length by the width by the thickness and then divide by 144 to arrive total BF.
