Kiln Drying Wood

We currently run 2 kilns. Our primary kiln is an I-Dry Vacuum kiln. This enables us to dry green wood and insure proper insect eradication. A typical drying cycle in the I-Dry Kiln is 2-3 weeks and 6-8 weeks in a conventional dehumidification kiln.

Proper air drying can take between 6 months to a year depending on the species, size and dimensions of the milled wood. Green wood can be placed immediately into the vacuum kiln if time is of the essence. We recommend that the wood should be at least less then 25% mcv (better at 20%) before kiln drying. We are available for consultation to discuss proper air drying of milled wood.

We primarily use our dehumidification (DH) kiln for slower drying of green, wetter wood to get it to less than 25% mcv and then put the wood through a cycle in the vacuum kiln to spike the temperature which will kill any bugs and lock in resin. The DH kiln can fit slabs or dimensional lumber up to 13’ 6″ in length.

Kiln Drying fees are $1.00 per board foot per week for the first 1000 board feet and .75 cents/board foot for loads over 1000 board feet.
